Counterfeit is a story about a close-knit group of professional thieves who plan and execute a daring robbery of a Brinks facility.  The plan goes smoothly, and they manage to get away with over $20 million in foreign currently.  It seems like the perfect crime and their success strengthens their friendship.

That is until someone begins to give tips to the police.  One by one, the gang is captured and put in jail.  This is where the intrigue and deceit begins. The main character, now in jail, tries to figure out who the traitor is.  He uncovers double and triple crosses within the gang. Eventually, the case is brought to court, and each of the gang members is tempted to become a witness against the others.

The movie plot is complicated and an unexpected conclusion will challenge the powers of deduction of the audience.

This movie explores what happens to friendships when external forces put pressures on relationships. Do humans value friendship above freedom, freedom above money, or money above all else? The answers are different for all of us and the audience has to deduce the importance of each value to each of the gang members. But what you see in not necessarily what you get.
